When the Australian government tightens visas for migrant workers and students, Nepalese will not be able to go to Australia as before. Due to the new immigration policy in Australia, the government is going to reduce the number of migrant workers and students. Because of this, Nepali students will be affected by this policy.
Australian Home Affairs Minister Claire O’Neill has released the government’s ten-year immigration strategy. Addressing a press conference on Monday, she said that the new policy was issued after the recent increase in the number of migrant workers and students in Australia, the problem of renting rooms, the lack of public transport and other physical infrastructure. According to the BBC, she also said that the previous government had disrupted the immigration system and now they are trying to bring it back to normal.
Along with the student visa, the tourist visa will also be tightened. According to the new policy, the English language test will be tightened for the international students. Now students going to Australia have to prove that the subject they want to study will further their education or career.
The Australian government has announced that it will reduce the number of immigrants by half within the next 2 years. Now the number of immigrants will be reduced to 250,000. Currently there are more than 500,000 immigrants. But the number of foreign students is more than 600,000.
