Smart cameras are being installed at 3 places including the new bus park to monitor over speeding vehicles

Kathmandu. The installation of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system cameras has progressed in three more places in Kathmandu to identify vehicles that have violated traffic rules.

With the financial support of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Kathmandu Valley Police Office has started the installation of NPR system cameras in three places of the capital.

Talking to Tekpana, the information officer of the office, Senior Superintendent of Police Dineshraj Mainali said that the work of installing ANPR cameras in New Bus Park, Mooni Bhairav and Maharajganj areas of Kathmandu has progressed.

“Police is now becoming technology-friendly,” said Information Officer Mainali, “under that, they are going to install state-of-the-art cameras in various places in Kathmandu.”

Such a state-of-the-art camera was earlier installed in Koteshwar, Mahalaxmi Sthan and Dhobighat area with ANPR with speed detection camera. Mainali said that he would give information about the features of the additional cameras that are going to be connected to those cameras after they are installed.

Regarding the cameras connected earlier, those cameras are measuring the speed of all the vehicles moving on the road. If someone drives a vehicle at a higher speed than the prescribed speed or violates the traffic rules, his information is stored in the system called 'Sicdak Save' in the control room of the traffic police.

Then the traffic police will take action after identifying the owner of the vehicle based on the number plate. In places where there is no traffic police, these cameras were installed to prevent this from happening after it was found that drivers were driving at high speeds. Apart from that, by installing such cameras, manpower will be reduced and the process of traffic regulation will be automated.

At present, 'lidar gun' is being used in most places of the valley to identify vehicles speeding more than the prescribed speed limit.
